Making Music Accessible for Everyone
Welcome to minimusicmaker.asia! I’m Dr. Robert Wells, and I’m excited you’re here, exploring how you or your child can begin to learn piano or another instrument. Perhaps you’re looking for the best piano learning apps, or wondering about easy ways to make music.
My mission is simple: to transform my years of music education experience into practical, easy-to-grasp advice. I want to help you start your musical journey effectively, so you can quickly experience the joy of playing an instrument and creating your own sounds.

Building on a Foundation of Real-World Experience
Why Trust Our Guidance?
I’m not just a musician; I’m a dedicated teacher, university lecturer, and music education researcher with a PhD focused on the impact of creative music practices.
My ongoing work, including co-editing a forthcoming book on music education, ensures the advice here is grounded in both current academic understanding and practical, real-world application for anyone wanting to learn music basics.
Guiding Young Musicians (And Parents)
Having worked extensively as a music teacher in schools and colleges, I’ve guided countless young people and their families through those crucial first steps of learning an instrument.
I’ve also had the privilege of leading inspiring music projects for world-class organizations like the London Philharmonic Orchestra, The English National Opera, and the London Symphony Orchestra.
Training Music Educators
My experience extends to teaching at renowned conservatoires. Currently, I contribute to the Music Education MA programme at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.
This deep understanding of effective teaching and curriculum development has informed my work creating university degree programs and even leading the national arts curriculum for the UAE Ministry of Education.
Your First Step to Making Music
Our core aim at minimusicmaker.asia is to help you get started making music. We believe learning should be straightforward and enjoyable. Whether you’re curious about understanding music notation, finding beginner-friendly DAWs, or just want to play easy piano songs, we’re here to provide the clear, expert advice you need.

Embracing Technology in Your Learning Journey
Do You Always Need a Traditional Teacher?
Finding a great local teacher can be incredibly beneficial, offering personalized guidance and helping you sidestep common learning hurdles. However, busy lives and budgets mean that’s not always feasible for everyone.
The good news? It’s absolutely possible to learn piano online and have immense fun making music, even independently. Much of my own early musical development flourished like this!
The Power of Piano Learning Apps & Music Software
Today, your mobile and tablet are powerful learning tools. Countless piano learning apps and music creation apps offer interactive lessons, engaging games, and instant feedback that can supercharge your motivation and progress. These aren’t a replacement for a great teacher, but they can be fantastic partners. In fact, many excellent teachers now recommend specific apps to support learning between lessons. We’ll help you find the best apps to learn piano notes and more.
Exploring Online Music Content & Tutors
Beyond apps, a universe of online music content awaits. From insightful YouTube channels (I’m still learning from them too!) to comprehensive online piano courses that blend video lessons, interactive tools, and even tutor support, the options are vast. These platforms can offer a fantastic mix of learning approaches, and we’ll guide you to the ones that deliver real value.
